Nosferattus is a spider genus of the Salticidae family (jumping spiders). All described species are found in Brazil.
Description
Species of Nosferattus range from 3 to 5.5 mm in length. Males have a smooth, oval-shaped plate (scutum) on the upper surface of the opisthosoma (abdomen). Nosferattus can be distinguished from other genera in the subfamily Sitticinae by the presence of highly flattened pedipalps in males, and very long and coiled copulation ducts in females.[1]
Name
The genus name is combined from Nosferatu and the ending -attus, which is common for salticid genera (as in Antillattus, Attidops, Attulus, Burmattus, Caribattus, Chinattus and so on).[1]
Systematics
This genus is probably related to Aillutticus, with which they share a high, broad carapace, rounded laterally behind the posterior lateral eyes, and the cephalic region slightly convex.[1]
