The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show is a 30-minute Saturday morning animated series and a spin-off of The Flintstones produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, which ran for 16 half-hour episodes from September 11, 1971, to September 2, 1972, and four 8-minute episodes (as part of The Flintstone Comedy Hour) from September 9, 1972, to September 1, 1973, on CBS.

Plot

The show followed neighbors Pebbles Flintstone (voiced by Sally Struthers and in Season 2 by Mickey Stevens) and Bamm-Bamm Rubble (voiced by Jay North) as teen sweethearts.[1] The episodes were set mainly in the duo's activities in the prehistoric town of Bedrock with their friends Moonrock (the school genius and resident inventor), Penny (a slightly overweight girl obsessed with being thin) and Wiggy (who planned her day according to what it said in the daily horoscope).

Also featured were Cindy (Pebbles's rival) and Cindy's boyfriend, Fabian, Bad Luck Schleprock (whose favorite catchphrase was, "Oh wowsie wowsie woo woo. Miserable day, isn't it?"), and a motorcycle gang called the Bronto Bunch (Bronto, Noodles, Stub, and Zonk). Bronto's favorite catchphrase was, "Wait for your leader, you dummies!" (said whenever his gang took off without him), and their favorite hangout was a diner called Brontoburgers. There, they would also dance to music being played by a jukebox – (just as in the original series) a bird with a long play beak. Also featured were Pebbles' and Bamm Bamm's pets – "Snoots" (a miniature Triceratops) and "Wooly" (a miniature woolly mammoth), although Dino was still seen on occasion.

Pebbles' parents, Fred and Wilma Flintstone, and Bamm-Bamm's parents, Barney and Betty Rubble, were all supporting characters rather than main characters, since the show focused on their children. A running gag that occurred throughout the run of the series was whenever Pebbles came up with an idea (good or not-so-good), she would say, "Yabba Dabba Doozie!" (a play on her father's, "Yabba Dabba Doo!" from the earlier series) and Bamm Bamm would become exasperated with Pebbles' "crazy hare-brained schemes". Among Bamm Bamm's favorite catchphrases was, "Oh no! She's got that look in her eye!" or "Oh brother." (said whenever Pebbles came up with one of her nutty ideas).

Bamm Bamm and their other friends would, more often than not, end up going along with Pebbles' schemes anyway – albeit reluctantly. Another running gag had Bamm Bamm and Moonrock trying to bail out of Pebbles' nutty plans and Pebbles shouting, "Get 'em, Gals!", whereupon Wiggy and Penny would take off running after Bamm Bamm and Moonrock and successfully bring them back, forcing them to go along.

Production

The series was produced and directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, animation directed by Charles A. Nichols, and written by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears (the show's story editors), Neal Barbera, Walter Black, Larz Bourne, Tom Dagenais, Bob Ogle, Larry Rhine and Richard Robbins. The music was composed by Hoyt Curtin. A second season of four new eight-minute episodes aired as part of The Flintstone Comedy Hour in 1972, episodes from both seasons were later featured as segments on the syndicated weekday series Fred Flintstone and Friends in 1977–78. In the late eighties, repeats were shown on USA Cartoon Express and later resurfaced on Cartoon Network and Boomerang. Like many animated series created by Hanna-Barbera in the seventies, the show contained a laugh track created by the studio.

PEB-2 "Putty in Her Hands" September 18, 1971 The Slipstone Art School offers Pebbles a free sculpturing lesson in a scam to get her to sign up for more lessons. Pebbles' attempts to prove she is a good sculptress fall flat, so she dips Bamm-Bamm in putty and convinces him to pose as her masterpiece to fool nemesis Cindy. Thinking that it'll be worth millions, Slipstone and his cohort heist statue Bamm-Bamm.
PEB-3 "Frog for A Day" September 25, 1971 After her part as a witch in the school play is cut back, Pebbles gets books on witchcraft to prove she can play an authentic witch. Thinking she changed Barney into a frog, Pebbles and the gang take the frog to a real witch to get him changed back.
PEB-4 "The Golden Voice" October 2, 1971 After hearing Bamm-Bamm singing in the shower, Pebbles drafts him to sing lead in their band. Unfortunately, Bamm-Bamm's voice when he's not in the shower is really awful, and Pebbles goes to extreme measures to bring his voice up to shower quality. This episode is a re-working of The Flintstones episode, The Flintstone Canaries, which originally aired on October 24, 1963.
PEB-5 "Daddy's Little Helper" October 9, 1971 Pebbles overhears a conversation that makes her think Fred is going to be fired, so she gets a job working for Mr. Slate at the gravel pit to make her father look good. Her interference blows a major contract for Mr. Slate and costs her father a promotion. Pebbles then sets out to find a way to save the contract – and her father's job.
PEB-6 "Focus Foolery" October 16, 1971 As Pebbles competes with Cindy to win the Most Unusual Photo Contest, she and Bamm-Bamm stumble upon a bank robbery and are forced to hide from the robbers by entering a beautiful baby pageant – with poor Bamm-Bamm as the baby.
PEB-7 "Pebbles' Big Boast" October 23, 1971 Pebbles brags to Cindy that she knows a famous rock group and then has to come up with a way to get them to perform at Cindy's party. There's only one problem – she doesn't really know them.
PEB-8 "The Grand Prix Pebbles" October 30, 1971 Fred and Barney create a super-secret fuel that is supposed to be tested for Gettystone Oil in the Bedrock Grand Prix. Pebbles accidentally gives the fuel and the formula to the junkman and must find a way to retrieve it before the race. In doing so, the kids find a flaw in the formula and work to correct it. A series of mishaps leaves Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm substituting for their fathers in the race.
PEB-9 "The Terrible Snorkosaurus" November 6, 1971 Pebbles overhears that Sea Rock World would pay $1000 for a terrible snorkosaurus, so she and the gang set out to capture one. The snorkosaurus turns out to be not so terrible, so Sea Rock World doesn't want him. Pebbles is forced to hide him in her parents' swimming pool – forgetting that Fred is planning a pool party for his boss.
PEB-10 "Schleprock's New Image" November 13, 1971 Pebbles' attempts to help Schleprock shake his bad luck omen lead to disaster after disaster, including getting the gang trapped in a mine with a crackpot professor searching for a lost city.
PEB-11 "Coach Pebbles" November 20, 1971 When Fred loses his voice, Pebbles takes over his little league team. Pebbles, Wiggy, and Penny spend too much time mothering the team, and their lack of baseball knowledge almost costs them the championship game. Bamm-Bamm and Moonrock have to come up with a way to get Fred back into the game before its too late.
PEB-12 "No Cash and Carry" November 27, 1971 Pebbles begins a new job as a clerk at Gimbelstone's Department Store. A con man convinces her that he is chief of store security and that her first job is to help him test his staff by clearing out a list of merchandise. Pebbles enlists her friends to help her rob the store – and then to get everything back when she realizes they've been duped.
PEB-13 "Wooly the Great" December 4, 1971 Pebbles' pet elephant Wooly is able to fly after bathing in Moonrock's Super Shampoo. After winning a pet talent contest, Wooly gets an overblown ego and causes Fred to blow up at him and hurt his feelings. Wooly runs away to join the circus, and the kids have to find a way to rescue him before the shampoo wears off.
PEB-14 "Mayor May Not" December 11, 1971 Pebbles is voted Honorary Mayor of Bedrock during student week so the Mayor goes on vacation, leaving Pebbles in charge. Wanting to improve the city, Pebbles switches the duties of the city departments. Disaster ensues and the city workers all quit. The gang and their parents take over and run the city while Pebbles tries to get the workers back by throwing a picnic.
PEB-15 "They Went That Away" December 18, 1971 Pebbles volunteers her friends and family to run Uncle Hatrock's ranch while he is away. The kids run into trouble when Pebbles unknowingly hires cattle rustlers as ranch hands, and Uncle Hatrock's prize herd disappears.
PEB-16 "The Birthday Present" January 1, 1972 Wooly takes the gift that Pebbles bought for her mother and buries it in the back yard. Pebbles believes it was stolen by her neighbor the creepy Mrs. Gruesome, so she offers to babysit for the Gruesomes so that the kids can infiltrate the Gruesome mansion and search for the gift. Thinking that Mrs. Gruesome may have the gift with her, the gang then crashes a Gruesome family reunion, and Bamm-Bamm is mistaken for a cat burglar.

FCH-2 "The Suitor Computer" September 9, 1972 Moonrock invented a new dating computer to see which man or woman will get the date of their dreams. He thinks Pebbles and Bamm Bamm would be a good couple until the computer matches up two different people to Pebbles and Bamm Bamm thanks to Cindy tampering with the machine.
FCH-3 "Beauty and the Beast" September 16, 1972 Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm enter the Bedrock annual masquerade ball contest as "The Beauty and the Beast".
FCH-4 "Bedlam in Bedrock" September 16, 1972 After Rocky Rocket gets fired from the radio station, the gang helps collects records from around town in order get his job back.

These four new episodes of Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm aired during the second half of The Flintstone Comedy Hour. Mickey Stevens replaced Sally Struthers as the voice of Pebbles on these episodes.

On March 18, 2008, Warner Home Video released The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show: The Complete Series on DVD in Region 1. The 2-disc set also includes four bonus episodes of Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm from The Flintstone Comedy Hour. This series is also available in Digital media format at iTunes Store.

Later appearances

A series of animated television movies and specials aired in 1993 extends the characters' continuity beyond high school, I Yabba-Dabba Do! details Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm's engagement and eventual marriage, while Hollyrock-a-Bye Baby shows Pebbles's pregnancy, which results in the birth of twins. A Flintstone Family Christmas details the family's adoption of an ex-con named Stoney. In the episode Revenge of the Man Crab from the Cartoon Network series Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (a reboot of Scooby-Doo, another Hanna-Barbera property), Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm make a short cameo appearance.
