Penamacor (Portuguese pronunciation: [pɨnɐmɐˈkoɾ] or [penɐmɐˈkoɾ]) is a municipality in the district of Castelo Branco in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 5,682,[1] in an area of 563.71 square kilometres (217.65 sq mi).[2] The physician and encyclopédiste António Nunes Ribeiro Sanches was born in Penamacor.
The mayor is António Luís Beites Soares.[3] The municipal holiday is the Easter Monday.
