Early life

He was educated at Denstone College.

Political career

Hawksley contested Wolverhampton North East in February and October 1974, but he was beaten by Labour's Renee Short both times.

He was Member of Parliament (MP) for The Wrekin from 1979 until he lost the seat to the Labour candidate in 1987. He was then MP for Halesowen and Stourbridge from 1992 until 1997, when the seat was abolished. During his time as an MP he attempted to re-introduce judicial corporal punishment for young male offenders.
