For Philippe Joubert, "Business as usual is dead: A new business model is emerging". He states that we need to and can decarbonise power, accurately price and account for externalities, and put sustainability at the heart of business strategies. Business leaders need to take urgent action to help meet our growing power needs sustainably in a resource-constrained and water-stressed world.
In December 2014 - Philippe Joubert presented at United Nations Climate Change conference COP20 in Lima, Peru, the Global Electricity Initiative (GEI) report that identifies the untapped opportunities for electricity utilities to further deliver a low-carbon future. The study covers utilities from countries which together account for about 80% of the global installed generating capacity, providing fact-based information as a basis for leaders in politics, industry and civil society to take meaningful decisions. They also highlight the areas in which further action and commitment are needed to achieve the appropriate goals. In addition, the findings showcase the way forward to increase electricity access in a sustainable and affordable manner. The GEI, which is chaired by Philippe Joubert, will be spearheading and facilitating the electricity sector’s change to a new business model that is already on its way.
