Pothukurru is a village of Ainavilli Mandal in East Godavari district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is a part of the P.Gannavaram Assembly Constituency and the Amalapuram Lok Sabha Constituency.[1]

Geography

Pothukurru is located near 16°37′19″N 82°01′36″E / 16.62195°N 82.02665°E / 16.62195; 82.02665. It has an average elevation of 1 meter.

Demographics

Hinduism is the predominant religion in the village with several temples dotted all over the village. Of late, a significant amount of the population in the village has converted to Christianity.

Education

The village has a primary school and an "Anganvadi" both of which are run by the local government. The nearest high schools are located in Kotthuru and Mummidivaram. Several Engineering colleges are located within a ten kilometer radius of the village. Konaseema Institute of Medical Sciences located in Amalapuram is the nearest Medical college. Amalapuram also has several Junior and Degree colleges which are easily accessible to the students from the village.

Agriculture

The village is dependent on agriculture in the form of Paddy fields and Coconut plantations. The Paddy crop has two seasons "Tholakari" which runs from June though December and "Dalva" which runs from January though April. Of late, Aqua culture has gained prominence in the village and is primarily restricted to land that is adjacent to the used water drain.

Connectivity

The village is about 5 kilometers from Mummidivaram which can be accessed by auto-rickshaws and a bus route operated by the state owned APSRTC. Amalapuram is about 12 kilometers from the village and is the main source of shopping and transport facilities to other parts of the state by road. The nearest railway stations are located at Rajamundry and Kakinada.
