Priscilla Wong (born 23 October 1981) is a Hong Kong television actress and host, currently under TVB management.[1] Wong is a devoted Christian. She speaks Cantonese, Mandarin and English.
Wong made her debut in 2003 anchoring i-Cable entertainment news program before signing with TVB in 2012 as an actress.
Biography
Wong was born the second oldest of a five child family of all girls. She grew up in a family where money was tight. Her father worked as a fish monger while her mother was a homemaker.[2] She graduated from Pentecostal Lam Hon Kwong middle school in 2000.
Wong later attended and graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2003, majoring in communications and public relations. During University Wong took a job as an intern at i-Cable and was later offered a full-time job as an host when she graduated from university.[3]
Career
Hosting
Wong was discovered while she was in Middle School at the age of 17 by Sandy Yu who was then an artiste management exec and later became a top TVB drama production executive. Signed under management by Sundream Motion Pictures she did not fully start her career in the entertainment industry until after graduating from university. Wong worked as an anchor for travelogue programs and entertainment news reporter for i-Cable. She was dubbed as "Stephen Chow’s personal host.", due to her easy access to interview the legendary comic actor.[4]
In 2010 Wong left i-Cable for Now TV, only to return one year later.
Acting
In 2008, Wong starred opposite Dicky Cheung in Sundream’s 2008 film The Champions (奪標), and earned critical praise for her performance.[4] She also had some previous acting experience from the film Love Dog Doc (妙狗仁心) [4]
In 2012, Wong signed with Hong Kong television station TVB as an actor. Wong was able to make a smooth transition from variety show host to acting but was constantly dogged by rumors that her success only came because of her friendship with current TVB exec Sandy Yu during her early years at TVB.[5] Her move to TVB proved successful as she gained a recognition as an actress and in 2014 Won the "Most Improved Female Artiste award".[6]
Personal life
In 2014 Priscilla Wong and Edwin Siu started dating after Madam Cutie On Duty finished filming. The two became close while filming of the drama in which they played pretend husband and wife. Initially secretive of their relationship, the two were caught on a date at the beach by gossip news photographers.
Wong was soon labeled as a third party to Siu's previous relationship with entertainment news host Gigi Ho, whom Siu never admitted to dating and later stating that he has been single for a long time.[7][8] During this time period Ho, who was not willing to let go of her past relationship with Siu would leave cryptic messages on her Weibo page vilifying Siu and Wong.[9] Also netizens and gossip news articles bashed Wong as a boyfriend stealer.
Siu eventually came clean professing his love for Wong and defending her on his personal Weibo page to stop further malicious false rumours about their relationship.[10][11] Weathering the storm together Siu and Wong has since been very open about their relationship.[12]
