The Pueblo Viejo mine is one of the largest gold mines in the Dominican Republic and in the world.[1] The mine is located in the south of the country in Azua Province.[1] The mine has estimated reserves of 25.3 million oz of gold and 120 million oz of silver.[1] Barrick Gold Corporation owns 60% of the mine and Goldcorp Inc. owns 40%.[2]
Gold is recovered from the ore using a pressure oxidation process, performed in four autoclaves which operate at 3.45 MPa and 230°C.[1]
