Warriors were a former Yugoslav/Canadian heavy metal band. The band was formed in 1982 under the name Ratnici (Serbian for Warriors), changing the name to Warriors in 1983. In 1984, the band moved to Canada, disbanding in 1986.
Band history
The band was formed in 1982 by the vocalist Dušan Nikolić and Riblja Čorba drummer Vicko Milatović (being Milatović's side project). The first lineup of the band also featured the guitarist Dragan Deletić, the guitarist Zoran Konjević and the bass guitarist Slobodan Svrdlan (a former member of the heavy metal band Gordi).
In 1982, the band released their debut EP Ratnici - Warriors, with four songs (two of them with English and two with Serbian language lyrics), through Yugoslav record label PGP-RTB.[1] After the album release, Milatović had to leave the band due to his army obligations, and Canadian guitarist Douglass Platt replaced Deletić. In 1983, the band released their first self-titled album through PGP-RTB.[2] with Tom Martin (a former member of the rock band Izazov) on drums, however, not as an official band member.[2]
After the release of their debut album, Warriors signed for the Canadian record label Attic Records.[3] In 1984, with Canadian drummer Lawrence Gretsch (formerly of Frank Soda & The Imps[4]) as the new member, the band recorded their second self-titled album.[5] After the album release, the band went on a short tour with Nazareth, disbanding shortly after.[3]
Post breakup
Gretsch joined the band The Carpet Frogs.[4] Slobodan Svrdlan was a member of the bands Lost City, recording the album Watching You (1993) with them,[6] and Michael Aston's Gene Loves Jezebel, recording the album Love Lies Bleeding (1999) with them.[7] In 2005, he appeared as guest on Generacija 5 album Energija (Energy), playing bass guitar on five tracks.[8]
