Riaz Fatyana is a Pakistani politician, Fatyana born on January 18, 1958 in Kamalia, Punjab, Pakistan.[1]He was a Member of Parliament from April 2008-March 2013.[2]Currently he is serving the president of Awami League (AL).[3]

Personal life

Riaz Fatyana is a psychologist by profession,he obtained B.A. Hons. Political Science and M.Sc.Applied Psychology degrees from University of the Punjab in 1979 and 1983 respectively, followed by an LL.B degree from University of Sindh in 1985.[1]

Political Career

He was elected a member of national assembly on a ticket of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) from NA-94 (Toba Tek Singh).[4]Riaz Fatyana in 2013 quits the the Pakistan Muslim League (Q)[5][6]due to conflict with Chaudhry Prevez Elahi and other party leaders.[7] During his political career, Riaz Fatyana has been elected for 3 terms as Member of the Punjab Provincial Assembly for the terms 1988-1990, 1990-1993 and 1993-1996.[1]He is former Member National Assembly,and he was a Chairman of National assembly standing committee on human rights as well as Parliamentarians Commission for Human Rights.[8]He has served as President of the Pakistan Psychologists Association and Senior Deputy Chief Commissioner of Pakistan Boy Scouts Association. He has also served as the Provincial Minister of Education Punjab.[1]In 2013 elections he elected as as independent candidate.[9]In January 2015 Riaz Fatyana Joined PTI.[10]Then after sometime he expelled from the party for allegedly not supporting the PTI candidate in the 2013-election in Toba Tek Singh.[11]The decision was took when Riaz Fatyana met Hamza Shahbaz Sharif without taking the party leadership into confidence at a time when PP-89 by-election was in progress.[12]

President of Awami League

Riaz Fatyana has launched a new political party namely Awami League (AL) in August 2016.[13]During the launching of the party Riaz Fatyana said that "Our mission is to make Pakistan a welfare state, and constitution and civil institutions would be reorganised" and "We are in favour of a revolution rather than change in the country".[14]Riaz Fatyana also include that "About 90 percent of the population of Pakistan is living under the poverty line, while the remaining 10 percent has accumulated all resources" and "Distribution of national wealth to common people is our party's manifesto,while the Jobs would be given on the basis of merit and salary will be given as per nature of job".[14]
