Rick Bolus High Potential "Blue-Chip" Basketball Camp is a youth basketball camp organization that holds camps annually during the summer months. The camp was created by basketball scout Rick Bolus who is based out of Kentucky. The camps are primarily held at Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY.

History

The "Blue-Chip" Basketball Camp was created by Rick Bolus in 1980 for the purpose of providing exposure and evaluation for middle and high school level basketball players during the summer offseason. Bolus has served as a basketball scout since 1973 when he started the High Potential recruiting service.[1] The camp was created particularly to help provide awareness for talented "sleepers" that could otherwise go unnoticed by college recruiters and coaches. "Blue-Chip" camps have been held primarily at colleges and universities in the state of Kentucky which includes Northern Kentucky University, Bellarmine University, Campbellsville University, and Georgetown College.

"Blue-Chip" camps have been featured in USA Today and the Louisville Courier-Journal.[2][3][4][5]

Overview

"Blue-Chip" holds 4 separate camp dates for athletes to attend. Those dates include 2 boys camps, a girls mini-camp, a weekend speciality camp for guards and post players, and a Florida boys mini-camp. All camps are held at Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY except for the Florida boys mini-camp which will be held at Warner University in Lake Wales, FL. Games are observed by the camp's staff and evaluations are created with input from each player's coach to compose each session's rankings, awards, and camp report that is made freely available on the camp's webpage.

The High Potential "Blue-Chip" home office is located in Shepherdsville, KY.

Boys Camps

"Blue-Chip" hosts 2 boys camps for junior and high school basketball players during the months of June and July. It also offers a weekend mini-camp for junior and high school players which is currently held in early June in central Florida. Each camp offers attendees the ability to take part in a minimum of 10 full court games (7 games for the junior division and 5 games for the mini-camp) played in an air conditioned gym among 4 hardwood courts (2 for the mini-camp), athletic drills and stations, mini-clinics, and shooting and dunk contests.[6] A camp all-star game is played on the last night of the 5 day/4 night camps which includes the camp's top performing athletes as well as a single-elimination tournament which occurs for the majority of the last day. On campus lodging is provided in the host campus' dormitories along with meals in the cafeteria.[7]

High Potential Showcase Girls Mini-Camp

The High Potential Basketball Showcase Girls Mini-Camp lasts for one weekend for middle school and high school players. The camp offers 5 games, team practices, and drills to improve, develop, and showcase an attendee's skills and talent. Like the boys camps, on campus lodging and cafeteria meals are provided.[8]

Speciality Camps

Two speciality camps are offered for boys and girls players that play at the guard or post positions. Each speciality camp takes place for 2 days and 1 night and concentrates on skills for those respective positions.[9][10]
