Rumex skottsbergii, or more commonly known as lava dock,[1] is a shrub of the genus Rumex. It is endemic to Hawaii, where it is known as pawale. Pawale is often one of the first plants to be found on fresh lava flows and grows in extremely arid conditions.[2]
