Ryan Michael McStay (born 4 December 1985), is a professional footballer currently co-player-manager of Shettleston in the Scottish Junior Football Association, West Region. He has previously played in the Scottish Premier League for Falkirk.
He began his career with Falkirk at U16 D-Form level, before playing for Partick Thistle, Dumbarton and Albion Rovers. He also had a loan spell at Queen of the South whilst at Falkirk.
Career
At Falkirk, McStay scored the goal that got the club promoted to the SPL in the 2004–2005 season. Despite this McStay left Falkirk in the summer of 2007 in search of first team football. He joined Partick Thistle on 1 June, as one of the first three summer signings by new manager Ian McCall.
On 31 January 2009 McStay was released by Partick Thistle. On the same day he played as a trialist for Dumbarton and signed a deal to stay to the end of the season after the game.
On 18 July 2011 McStay signed for his local and newly promoted division two side Albion Rovers on a one-year deal. McStay left Rovers after the 2011–2012 season, and has signed for Ayr United on a 1-year deal.[1]
McStay signed for Junior side Irvine Meadow in August 2013 but left for NIFL Premiership side Portadown later the same month.[2][3]
On 3 July 2014 McStay signed for Annan Athletic, it being the second time that Annan manager Jim Chapman had signed him. [4] McStay was announced as part of the new management team at Shettleston in March 2016 alongside Annan team-mate Peter Weatherson and the pair assumed their new roles at the end of the 2015–16 season.[5]
