The Salsali Private Museum [SPM], in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, is the first private museum in the region for contemporary Middle Eastern and international art. It was founded in November 2011 by Ramin Salsali, and is located in the industrial area of Al Quoz in Alserkal Avenue, a complex with the highest concentration of galleries and creative spaces in the region.
Exhibitions at SPM showcase artworks from the Salsali's collection and the museum hosts exhibitions from across the globe.
Furthermore, SPM serves as an independent center for art collectors, and provides an insight into a Contemporary Middle Eastern and International Art.
Philosophy
People discuss my art and pretend to understand as if it was necessary to understand, when it's simply necessary to love!
As Claude Monet said, there is no need to use any complicated statements to express the passion and love for the art and culture. Salsali Private Museum [SPM] is the reflection of this passion in the most simple way. The simplicity of the concept of SPM seeks to eliminate any possible intimidation and/or hesitation by any individuals, not only to start to collect art, but also to showcase their collection.
I advocate and appeal for the social responsibility of all individuals and corporations to contribute to the development of creativity in their communities by supporting art and culture, through collecting and sharing art with the public. We all have a responsibility and a duty to maintain community values. Supporting art belongs to these values and is the universal language for a peaceful communication among the cultures. A museum of art is the responsive tool and a supportive platform in this context. It is a modern temple for tranquility, love and inspiration.
Open to the public in 2011, the Salsali Private Museum considers its position as being a cultural base and a platform for new and established collectors, acting as a catalyst for creating a new generation of collector enthusiasts. SPM is not only the first private museum of contemporary art in the region, but also the first collector center in the world to provide a free service to local and international collectors, giving them the opportunity to connect with each other, with artists, galleries and the creative community of the region.
Salsali Private Museum is a contribution to the unique process of the development of the United Arab Emirates and Dubai as an evolving hub for the art and culture of the Middle East. It is a true example for the social responsibility and commitment of all individuals and corporations to contribute to the development of creativity in their communities.
Founder
Ramin Salsali started his collection at the age of 21 and has been developing it ever since. Born in Tehran in 1964, he studied economics, strategic management and marketing with a focus on Industry Design in Germany and England. Parallel to his studies he founded a specialized consulting company for innovative and green technologies for application in petrochemical industries. Later, he entered into real estate development with particular focus on the preservation of historical buildings.
For the last 15 years, his vision to share his passion for art with the public has been the moving force to establishing a museum for contemporary art related to the Middle East. In April 2011, Ramin Salsali decided to realize his long-term dream by establishing a private museum in Dubai. Salsali Private Museum [SPM] opened its doors on the 11.11.2011.
SPM is the first private museum for contemporary art in the region, in which Salsali’s collection of over 900 pieces of painting, photography, video art, sculpture and installation art are showcased. SPM also hosts guest collections and selected international exhibitions. Salsali’s mission is to contribute to the development of art, culture and creative communities, support artists and promote the culture of collecting by encouraging individuals, families and corporations to collect and share art with the public.
In 2013 and 2014, Ramin Salsali has introduced the two concepts of the Dubai Museum of Contemporary Art (DMOCA) and the first Museum for the contemporary Art of the Middle East in Berlin.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai has recognized and honored Ramin Salsali as Patron of the Arts for the consecutive years, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 for his sustained support of the art community in Dubai.[1]
Collectors Lounge
Salsali Private Museum is the first free center and platform for collectors in the world. SPM has a full office space where visiting collectors can meet, discuss and exchange their ideas.
The museum is equipped with a dedicated space where collectors can showcase their works. The mezzanine office space has a transparency policy inherent within its design and ethos. Collectors are free to meet one another to discuss ideas within the museum as well as draw on their knowledge bank.
Ramin's depth of experience and refreshing approach to the art collection process will be inspiring to both established and emerging collectors.[2]
