Sam Shank is an entrepreneur, angel investor, and the CEO of Hotel Tonight, a mobile travel app for iPhone, iPad, Windows Phone and Android devices that helps users find discounted last-minute hotel accommodations.[1][2] Shank previously founded DealBase.com, a travel deals search engine, and TravelPost, the second largest hotel review site.[3][4]

Career

Shank is a graduate of the University of Virginia and Kellogg School of Management.[5] He began his career by working in business and product development at NexTag, Excite, and CNET.[6] In 2004, Shank founded and served as the CEO of TravelPost, a travel startup which originally acted as an online travel journal where people could write about their travels, or hotels, and upload photos before focusing more on hosting hotel reviews.[3] SideStep acquired TravelPost in 2006 .[7] In 2008, Shank founded and served as the CEO of DealBase, an aggregate site that compares hotels and hotel prices.[4] Shank is also an investor in the mobile commerce app, WillCall.

In 2011, Shank founded the mobile app HotelTonight.[8][9] HotelTonight is a free mobile app which offers curated last-minute hotel deals.[10][11][12] Shank said he wanted to create a "service that can solve the problem of 'I need a hotel right now' and getting you quickly into a room at a great price."[13]
