Sand City is a 2015 Malayalam language Indian romantic thriller film directed by Shankar Panicker starring Prajin, Gautham, Tejaswini Prakash, Varuna Shetty, Vinod Kumar (VK), Jaise Jose, Jijesh Menon and himself.[1][2][3]

The film has been written and produced by M.I.Vasanthkumar and has been made in Tamil language as Manal Naharam.[4]

Plot

Sand City explores the lives and predicaments experienced by people from India at Arab countries for better dream and fortunes, leaving behind their loved ones at home. The story takes place in Dubai.[5]

Cast

Filming

The preliminary schedule of the film took place in Chennai in March 2013 and the crew left for Dubai as the major story unfolds in Dubai, with most part of the film being shot there. "The 50-day shooting was very tough and challenging", said Shankar to a daily.

Audio Launch

Sand City 's audio was launched on 15 October at The Oberoi, Dubai attended by the entire cast and crew of Sand City. Apart from the team, actor Rizabawa also spoke on the occasion.[9]

Reception

Movietoday appreciated Sand City as an example of a film which has been dedicated to the Gulf Malayalees. The technical aspect of the film like cinematography, songs and stunning visuals was aptly praised. They recommended the film for the realistic picturisation of Gulf and the life of Gulf Malayalees and rated 3.25/5 stars.[10] Onlookersmedia too appreciated the film summing it as "Sand city is a one time watchable small film for film lovers".[11] Muyals.com praised director Shankar Panicker mentioning that "he needs a good applause as he created a good film with good theme and a group of talented youths. Sand City will mark Shankar Panicker’s name in the list of good directors" and summed up as "Overall the film stands as a watchable one with a good story and presentation; consisting lots of positive factors in it".[12] Times of India rated the movie as average and appreciated the photography of the film, summing up as "the film could have been much better if treated well".[13]
