Sellers International Band
The Sellers International Band was a brass band based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, UK, the senior section of which disbanded in 2008. The Sellers International Youth Band still rehearses and performs regularly.
History
Originally formed in January 1986 as "Huddersfield Tecol Band", the name was changed in November 1987 to "Sellers College Brass", then to "The Sellers Engineering Band" and subsequently "Sellers International Band".
The band lost sponsorship in 2007 after a series of poor results at the Yorkshire Area Brass Band contest, which would have seen the band relegated into the First Section. This (along with internal mismanagement and fallouts), eventually led to the breakup of the senior band. CD's of its farewell concert, on 2 January 2008, were made available courtesy of the RIP Blue Ties association, with all proceeds going to charity.
Personnel
Noteworthy personnel included conductor Phillip McCann and David Root on Eb Tenor Horn, whose solo CD featured accompaniment from the band.
Youth Band
Sellers International Youth Band, continues to thrive and was formed in 1998 with help from a National Lottery grant, which enabled the purchase of instruments. The demise of the senior band made further instruments available.
