Semra Kebede (Amharic) (born June 18, 1987) is an Ethiopian beauty pageant titleholder, model, and actress, who was crowned Miss Ethiopia USA 2006 and later Deputy Miss Africa USA 2006.

Early life

Semra Kebede was born on June 18, 1987 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Kebede, alongside her parents and brother, moved to the United States at the age of 10. She grew up in Houston, Texas and attended Alief Independent School District. Her parent belong to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and she was raised in the Ethiopian Orthodox religion. Kebede studied Economics at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 2009.

Titles

Semra Kebede was crowned Miss Ethiopia USA 2006 at the official Miss Ethiopia USA pageant. This win qualified her to compete and represent her country of Ethiopia in the Miss Africa USA pageant and she later was crowned Deputy Miss Africa USA 2006.

Modeling

Kebede has participated in fashion shows for designers known within the Ethiopian community such as the Ethiopian musician/designer Chachi Tadesse and Ras Judah designer Rozy Negusie. She has also appeared in print for the later designer as well as for other Ethiopian beauty products.

Acting

Kebede has been given the starring role in an upcoming Ethiopian film produced by Ella productions. The film is written by Ethiopian writer/songwriter Negussie Semework who has written for well known Ethiopian singers such as Mahmoud Ahmed among others. Tergwamiew (The Transaltor), which depicts the lives of Ethiopian Americans, has been filmed on location in New York, Florida, Atlanta, and Washington D.C and is scheduled to finish filming in 2012 and is to be released in 2013.
