Shalby Hospital is a multi-speciality hospital based in Ahmedabad. It was established in 1994 as a Joint Replacement Centre by knee-replacement surgeon, Dr. Vikram Shah. Shalby has established a multi-specialty hospitals chain in Gujarat, MP, Goa and Punjab. Besides hospital units, Shalby has established over 60 Patient Outreach Clinics (OPD Centres) across India, including the remotest areas. Multi-specialty and super specialty consultation and post operative care are being extended through these centres.
Overview
Shalby Hospital was started for offering for the first time in the Ahmedabad— Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery. Shalby Hospitals transitioned from a small 6-bed single specialty unit established in 1994 to a technologically advanced 200-bed multi-specialty hospital in 2007 and today it offers care in over 40 medical disciplines ranging from cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, trauma, cosmetology to ENT.[1][2] Shalby hospital on Ahmedabad's Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Road performs the maximum number of joint replacement surgeries a day in a single hospital anywhere in the world.[3]
In 2011, Shalby has become the only hospital in Gujarat to have received the Diplomat in National Board (DNB) certificate in Orthopaedics. With this, Shalby can have two candidates absorbed annually and DNB Orthopaedics is a three-year course. Hence, if every year Shalby takes two students, at the end of three years, we will have six students studying under the DNB orthopedics programme. In addition, this is the first time that Gujarat has been able to receive such an accreditation.
