Shane Marshall

Shane Raymond Marshall is a former judge of the Federal Court of Australia.

Justice Marshall studied Economics and Law at Monash University. After graduating, he practised as a solicitor for a few years before being admitted to the Victorian Bar in 1981.[1]

Justice Marshall was appointed as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia on 17 July 1995, and concurrently as a judge of the Industrial Relations Court of Australia (later merged into the Federal Court). He retired on 21 November 2015. Between 2004 and 2013, he was also an additional judge of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory.[1]

In 2003, Justice Marshall was recognised with a Centenary Medal for services to industrial relations. He was a member of the Board of the law faculty at Monash University between 2008 and 2013, and a member of its advisory committee from 2013 to 2015.[1]

In February 2015 Marshall spoke publicly about his battle with depression, and similar difficulties experienced by members of the legal profession.[2]

He is married with two daughters.
