Shannon McGauley
Shannon McGauley (born 1963) is the co-founder, spokesman, and president of the Texas Minutemen Inc.
In early 2005, he volunteered in a Minuteman Project Inc. patrol in Arizona, where he met Minuteman leader Jim Gilchrist. After a short time, it was decided among the two men that McGauley should form the Texas Minutemen and expand into Texas under McGauley's supervision. McGauley shortly thereafter registered the name Texas Minutemen LLC, based in Arlington. He later dissolved the company, and opted to create Texas Minutemen Inc.
Personal
McGauley was born in Crosby, North Dakota. He is a Texas-licensed private investigator, and has commonly worked alongside bail bondsmen as a bounty hunter, and has referred to his occupation as a "bail bond enforcement agent." He currently resides in Arlington, Texas, where he is a licensed amateur (N5KOU) radio operator.
Political Views
McGauley is a self described conservative, and stated that he is a lifelong Republican on the airwaves of KXYL-FM, 96.9. He believes strongly in one's right to bear arms and calls for a permanent lift on assault weapons bans. McGauley believes sodomy and homosexuality are "improper", but said he respects the Supreme Court's 6-3 decision in Lawrence v. Texas which struck down the criminal prohibition of sodomy in Texas.
In reference to the two factions of Minutemen, McGauley, said he agrees philosophically with Chris Simcox, leader of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, but objects to the national structure.[1]
