Skin Companion EP 1 is an extended play (EP) by Australian musician Flume. The four-track EP was written during the production of Flume's studio album, Skin.[2]
It was released digitally and on vinyl through Future Classic on 25 November 2016.
Background
In August 2016, Flume announced the release of the EP. It follows the release of his second studio album, Skin and is "some more music that was written around the same time" as that album.[3]
Flume said: "I've been overwhelmed by the support you guys have shown for Skin over the past few months and I wanted to share some more music that was written around the same time. The first Skin Companion EP is a 12" of songs we are releasing in November. It will be available on vinyl at lots of great indie record stores around the world."[4]
Critical reception
Matthew Meadow from Your EDM wrote: "If you thought that Skin was just a little too radio friendly, ... (this) is going to hit just the right spot. With four brand new tracks, including some that have been teased since the Skin LP Preview, Flume has managed to capture the spirit of his sophomore LP while hearkening back to the days of his debut album".[5]
Will McCarthy from Dancing Astronaut said: "The Skin Companion EP is arguably more sonically intriguing than the album itself, as Flume draws influence from a variety of different sources to build upon his own style. While classic Flume synthesis pervades the EP, some songs evoke the essence of artists such as Rustie and James Blake".[6]
