Early life
Born in Hawaii as his father was serving on a US Navy submarine, Spencer Antle was schooled in prep schools in the United Kingdom, high school in Wayland, Massachusetts and studied Creative Writing at University of Miami.[3] He then embarked on a film career in Los Angeles as a screenwriter and award-winning television commercial director, winning multiple Telly Award, Association of Independent Commercial Producers awards, CINE Eagle Awards, ADDY Awards for various commercials and is a member of the Directors Guild of America.[4]
Island Company
Antle started the lifestyle brand Island Company out of his car selling bikinis store-to-store across the United States after his then-girlfriend couldn't find a bikini they both liked.[5] Island Company is now a top supplier of high-end apparel to the resort destination market and has been named Inc. (magazine) Top 500/500 Fastest Growing Companies three years in a row since 2008. A feat no other fashion company has achieved, and one of only 8 companies in all markets within Florida.[6][7]
As Island Company grew, eventually to 400 wholesale accounts, in 2008, during the hard times of the Great Recession, he was forced to make a decision to try and rescue the growth the company had achieved before sales started slipping.[8] In a retail climate where retailers were shuttering locations in large scale across the globe, Antle decided to open Island Company's first store in the height of economic dismay in November, 2008, against the advice of many advisors who considered it business suicide.[9] Island Company opened two stores in 2008 and 2009, the first in Palm Beach on Worth Avenue, the second in Nantucket. With the success of the first two locations, Antle opened additional locations in Naples, Florida, Martha's Vineyard, and in the Cayman Islands[10]
In March, 2013 Antle launched Island Company's first concept store; Escape Travel Live at Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas. That same month Antle won the 2012-2013 "Best Of Broadcast" ADDY Awards for his film direction of the Island Company commercial; "Never Return".[11]
In April, 2013 Antle was awarded the "Entrepreneurial Spirit" Award from the Palm Beach Chamber Of Commerce for his work in bringing Island Company's store to Worth Avenue.[12]
Personal life
He lives in West Palm Beach, Florida where Island Company is headquartered. He is a seaplane pilot and PADI Master Instructor.[13]
