St John of God Foundation

The St John of God Foundation is the fundraising arm of St John of God Health Care, one of the largest providers of health care services in Australia.[1]

The St John of God Foundation was established in 1994 by the Sisters of St John of God; in February 2010, the Foundation was integrated into St John of God Health Care.[2]

The Foundation works to raise funds in response to the needs of people and communities that are not met by traditional means or government funding.[3]

The St John of God Foundation is based in Subiaco.[4]

Murdoch Community Hospice

The St John of God Foundation’s first major project was the Murdoch Community Hospice, for which the Foundation raised $5m.[5]

Located on the grounds of St John of God Murdoch Hospital, the purpose-built, 20 bed Murdoch Community Hospice provides specialist palliative care to patients in Perth’s southern suburbs.[6]

Bendat Family Comprehensive Cancer Centre

The Foundation raised $20 million for the construction of the Bendat Family Comprehensive Cancer Centre, pledged over a five-year period from 2006-2011.[7]

The centre, located at St John of God Subiaco Hospital, comprises an oncology ward, day chemotherapy suite, an endoscopy unit and consulting suites.[8]

Horizon House Project

Formally known as the Lighthouse Project, the Horizon House Project was started by the St John of God Foundation (now one of St John of God Health Care’s Social Outreach and Advocacy services) that provides long-term accommodation, intensive support and care for young homeless people aged 16–22 years.[9]

By the end of 2010, the St John of God Foundation had established Horizon House programs in Bunbury, Bendigo, East Geelong, Geelong, Geraldton, Wilson and Wanneroo.

Horizon Houses opened in Broome and Warrnambool in 2011 and in Dianella, Perth in 2012.[10]
