Stevan Marković (bodyguard)
Stevan Marković (Serbian Cyrillic: Стеван Марковић; May 10, 1937 in Belgrade, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, today Serbia – October 1, 1968 in Paris, France) was a bodyguard for movie star Alain Delon. He was found murdered in 1968.
Early days
In the 1950s Stevan Marković and his friend Milos Milos (Miloš Milošević) were involved in streetfighting in Belgrade. They met Alain Delon, a young movie star at the time, who was filming a movie in Belgrade in a co-production with SFR Yugoslavia. Delon employed Milos Milos and later Stevan Marković as his bodyguard. He was good friends with Serbian gangster Nikola Milinković. Stevan was in the first column of the convoy of Nikola's burial.
Paris Rise
By virtue of his constant company of Delon as well as his looks and charisma, Marković came in contact with a French jet-set. It has also been speculated that he was a male prostitute. [1]
Murder
In 1968 the body of Stevan Marković was found in the outskirts of Paris. Alain Delon was under investigation, but was never accused. One of the factors pointing in his direction was a letter by Marković to his brother Aleksandar where he wrote: "If I get killed, it's 100% fault of Alain Delon and his godfather Francois Marcantoni."
His death provoked a political scandal, The Markovic affair, involving French President Georges Pompidou.
