Professional history
Ekstrom is best known for his work on Newsarama.com as a journalist within the American comic book industry. He is also a regular contributor at ShotgunReviews.com. Initially, he started out reviewing comic books independently via MySpace.com under the pseudonym "The Masked Comic Dork", in an attempt to enter the American comic book industry. By December 2006, he was recruited by Troy Brownfield to write for Shotgun Reviews and the Best Shots review column on Newsarama.com.[1]
Ekstrom began freelancing for Newsarama.com in February 2007 when he provided the website with coverage of MegaCon 2007 in Orlando, Florida—interviewing Mike Carey.[2] and reporting on an award ceremony for Dick Giordano.[3]
As a comic book writer, his first published work with artist Douglas Draper Jr., an eight-page horror comic titled "Breakfast", was published by 803 Studios in their second annual anthology series, Sequential Suicide: Slop in March 2008. "Breakfast" was printed for a second time by Desperado Publishing in issue 20 of the anthology series Negative Burn in July 2008.
Ekstrom worked for Newsarama.com until 2011.

Ekstrom received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature with a minor focusing in Creative Writing from Valdosta State University in 2005. During his tenure at VSU, he served as editor of the university's literary magazine, Odradek, in 2000 as Editor Emeritus and again in 2001 as the Editor.
