History
Stockport Academy once officially known as Avondale High School, back in 2004/2005 Avondale was set to be shutdown by Stockport Metropolitan Council due to multiple Ofsted reports declaring the school inadequate, after it was officially announced that the council would cut the funding for the school and later force it to close the council was confronted by organisation known by the name of United Learning Trust at the time Known today as United Learning and United Church Schools Trust stating that they would like to take over Avondale High School to later re-brand as Stockport Academy.
In 2005/2006 the re-branding for Avondale High School started, the first step they took while re-branding the school a name change was in order, so from this day the school was no longer known as Avondale High School, Stockport Academy was born, later they started work on the development of a new building which was to be located on the same site as where the original Avondale buildings were housed so they slowly demolished parts of the old build to make way for the £28 Million pound building.
Stockport Academy opened its doors in 2007, Principal Mr Tim McCarthy later resigned after being head teacher of Avondale High school for nine years, when Mr McCarthy left the Academy his replacement was vice principal Mr Ben Dunne whom was to fill in for the next two terms who later became the principal permanently. In 2013 Mr Dunne later left due to family reasons.
After previous principal Ben Dunne resigned, the school sponsor United Learning appointed Mr Frank McCarron known for this work with other schools over the country, before McCarron joined Stockport Academy in September 2013 the Academy still needed to be improved after being taken out of special measures while Mr Dunne was principal.
After being principal for 2 years principal Mr Frank McCarron, Stockport Academy later received an Ofsted report which declared the them as a good school with outstanding features as of 2015
