The women's 200 metre individual medley competition of the swimming events at the 1987 Pan American Games took place on 14 August at the Indiana University Natatorium.^[1] The last Pan American Games champion was Tracy Caulkins of US.^{[2][3][4][5][6][7]}

This race consisted of four lengths of the pool, one each in backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle swimming.^[8]
