Tambov State University named after G. R. Derzhavin (T.G.U, Russian: Тамбовский государственный университет имени Г. Р. Державина) is a state university in Tambov, Russia. It is the second largest university in the Central Chernozyom Region of Russia, and has over 10,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and more than 650 academic staff.[1]
History
Sometimes referred to as G. R. Derzhavin State University, it is named in honor of the Russian poet and statesman, Gavrila Romanovich Derzhavin, and was formed in 1994 when the Tambov State Pedagogical Institute and Tambov State Institute of Culture were merged into a single institution.[2]
The university has 63 departments and 30 research centers and laboratories, including "Nanomir", a major center for nanotechnology research.[1][3]
