Tanner McEvoy is an American football wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Wisconsin, Arizona Western College and the University of South Carolina.
Early years
Tanner was born to Tina and Steve McEvoy. He grew up in Hillsdale. McEvoy attended Bergen Catholic high school in Oradell, New Jersey where he played football and basketball.[1] McEvoy graduated from Bergen Catholic in 2011.[2]
College career
Tanner McEvoy verbally committed to the South Carolina on January 20, 2011 to play quarterback.[2] McEvoy redshirted his first year on campus.[1] On July 30, 2012, McEvoy was arrested in North Carolina and charged with speeding and driving after consuming alcohol while under age 21.[3] On August 7, eight days after his arrest McEvoy announced that he was going to transfer from South Carolina.[4]
McEvoy transferred to Arizona Western prior to start of 2012 season. McEvoy appeared in 10 games during the 2012 season at the quarterback position passing for 2,301 yard with 29 touchdowns and rushing for 6 more.[1]
McEvoy transferred to University of Wisconsin where he played from the 2013 season through the 2015 season. McEvoy played in 38 games splitting time between playing at safety, quarterback and wide receiver.[1]
Professional career
McEvoy went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. On April 30, 2016, he signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent. [5][6]
In his first preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs, McEvoy caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Trevone Boykin as time expired, along with 2 other receptions to total 77 yards. The Seahawks went on to win 17-16 after scoring on the subsequent two point conversion.[7]
McEvoy caught his first NFL pass for a touchdown against the New York Jets on October 2, 2016.
In a tie game against the Arizona Cardinals on October 23, 2016, McEvoy blocked a punt.
In a game against the New Orleans Saints the following week, McEvoy threw a pass deep to C.J. Prosise for 43 yards, marking the first pass attempt of his NFL career.
Personal
McEvoy graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in sociology in December 2015.[1] His brother, Colin, played college football at Rutgers.
