Theodore Roosevelt Malloch (born 1952) is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Global Fiduciary Governance, LLC, a strategy and thought leadership company and served as Chairman and CEO of The Roosevelt Group. He is author of best-selling books and executive producer of numerous PBS documentaries, most notably, the award winning and Emmy nominated, Doing Virtuous Business.[1] His memoir is entitled: DAVOS, ASPEN & YALE: My Life Behind the Elite Curtain as a Global Sherpa, 2016.[2]

Biography

Malloch was born at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 22, 1952 and grew up in Rittenhouse Square, Olney and the Main Line. His family was prominent in Philadelphia life and his father was a civilian leader of the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, after a Navy career in WWII on a PT boat in the Pacific campaign. He has one sibling, Richard P. Malloch, a media company executive. Malloch is married to Beth Ellen Miller and has four children: Ian, Trevor, Nigel, and Morgan. His upbringing, Presbyterian Church life, spiritual development, education and contributions in academic, political, diplomatic, business and philanthropic life are detailed in his memoir.

Career

Malloch has been a Senior Fellow of The Aspen Institute, where he previously directed all of its national seminars. He was also President of the CNN World Economic Development Congress[3] that focused on "building the integrated global economy" attended by 2500 international CEOs, Ministers of Governments, investment, and economic leaders, where Lady Margaret Thatcher dubbed him, "a global Sherpa."[4]

Malloch served at an ambassadorial level in the United Nations as Deputy Executive Secretary UNECE in Geneva, Switzerland from 1988-1992.

Malloch has served on the executive board of the World Economic Forum, which hosts the Davos meeting annually in Switzerland. He headed consulting at Wharton-Chase Econometrics; has worked in international capital markets at the investment bank, Salomon Brothers, Inc.; and has served in senior policy positions at the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and in the U.S. State Department. He was a Research Professor for the Spiritual Capital Initiative at Yale University and is a Professor and Senior Fellow at Said Business School, University of Oxford.[5]

Malloch has served on many corporate, mutual fund and not-for-profit boards, including the University of Toronto International Governing Council, a Pew Charitable Trust board, the Templeton Foundation; and as an adviser to many think tanks including, The Hudson Institute, American Foreign Policy Council, Institute of Economic Analysis, and the Social Affairs Unit in the UK.

On 16th November 2016 Malloch was interviewed by Evan Davis on the BBC Newsnight programme in connection with the reported likelihood of his being appointed by US President-Elect Donald Trump to an important (unspecified) role. He revealed that he had been extensively consulted by Trump throughout the Presidential election campaign.

Education

Malloch earned his Ph.D. in International Political Economy from the University of Toronto, where he held the Hart House Open University Fellowship. He took an M.Litt. Degree (honours) from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland on a St. Andrew's Fellowship and earned a BA from Gordon College. He has authored fourteen books, numerous articles, corporate and government reports and appeared frequently on television, radio, in print and as a keynote speaker.[6] Malloch chaired the Spiritual Enterprise Institute, which he founded in 2005 (funded by the John M. Templeton Foundation).

Malloch also fashioned the Fortune 500 Forum for Fortune Magazine; and managed the development of UN EDIFACT, the new rules and standards for global paperless trading.

He has appeared in print in many countries and on: CNN, FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC, BBC, The Economist, Weekly Standard, Forbes, American Spectator, Christian Century, many anthologies, and others.

Public engagement

Malloch has been active in a number of civic and political organizations and in the, as a policy analyst, advisor, and fundraiser. He has played a role in various political campaigns and in numerous thinktanks and nonprofit educational, research and political boards, and foundations.

Corporate governance

Malloch is a noted authority on corporate governance and ethics and has written reports and consulted widely on the topic. He has served on a total of 36 boards and does advisory work and research on the subject, including corporate governance audits, ethics audits, and use of tools such as the CEO virtue matrix and enterprise-wide risk management protocols.
