Errol Thompson, better known as The Kemist, is a Jamaican-American Deejay, Producer, recording artist and songwriter. His music is a mix of wide range of genres which incorporates elements from Reggae, Dancehall, Trap, Hip Hop, Dubstep, Hardstyle and Moombahton music.
Career
Producer / Songwriter
The Kemist began his music career as a member of the production duo Black Lion.[1] In February 2013 Black Lion produced Nyanda's 1st promotional single "Trouble",[2][3] which is a Dancehall remix of Taylor Swift's multi-platinum single "I Knew You Were Trouble" which fuses Reggae, Dancehall and Pop music.[4] Co-written by The Kemist, "Trouble" entered UK Music Week's Top 30 Urban Club Charts in Week 7 (2013)[5] and remained in the charts for 7 Weeks,[6][7] peaking at #15.[8]
Nyanda's 1st official single, "Slippery When Wet", was produced by Black Lion and co-written by The Kemist. "Slippery When Wet" entered UK Music Week's Top 30 Urban Club Charts in Week 27 (2013)[9] and remained in the Top 30 for 5 weeks,[10] peaking at #13.[11] "Slippery When Wet" Won the Award for Best Reggae Song at the 2014 Lipstick Radio's Indie Music Awards.[12]
The Kemist co-wrote the single "Adrenaline Rush" by DJ LBR featuring Mr. Vegas that was released by Space Party on April 16, 2015.[13][14] The French version of "Adrenaline Rush" which also features Papa London, was released on July 17, 2015.[15]
DJ / Artist
The Kemist's 1st release as a vocalist was Assets, a collaboration with Yellow Claw and Tropkillaz.[16] Released on Diplo's label, Mad Decent, Assets is "a track that twists its vocals in a way that winds through the most bass-hungry, whimsical quarter of your imagination."[17]
Mad Decent premiered The Kemist's 1st Mixtape, Party Animals on December 10, 2014.[18] "The mix itself is truly indicative of the The Kemist and Tropic Electric’s unique sound; a fusion of the classic Caribbean genres of Reggae and Dancehall with Electronic music. It’s high-energy, big drops, heavy bass lines and seamless transitions between tracks of varying tempos bare strong resemblance to his counterparts DJ Fresh and Major Lazer."[18]
February 2, 2015 marked the official release of The Kemist's single FIRED UP[19] alongside LNY TNZ and Ruthless. The song was 1st played at Tomorrowland 2014 by Dj Carnage[20] and went straight to #1 on Beatports Hard Dance chart during its 1st week of release.[21] The song contains "huge kicks and melodies topped off with super catchy vocals"[22] and "powerful lyrics"[21] by The Kemist.
