The Love Note is a musical written by Gail Phaneuf.
Overview
The musical deals with the idea of bullying among teenage and pre-teenage school communities. The main character is Jessie, and the play covers her arrival at a new secondary school. There she explores the various social groups and personalities of the school. The name of the play “Love Note” makes reference to the note that her mother packs into her lunch bag each day. The bullies of the school eventually discover the note and poke fun at Jessie; which results in Jessie standing up for herself. The story results in Jessie pursuing a course of action against the bullies in order to regain both the note and her lunch.[1]
Productions
The musical premiered in 2009 at the Curry College Theatre.[2]
The play was performed in several locations across the US,[1] before it received an off-Broadway premiere at The Actors' Temple theatre.[3][4] Productions have included both professional and school productions, as a part of anti-bullying education curriculum and programs.[5]
