The National Parks (band)
The National Parks formed in early 2013 in Provo, Utah.[1] September of that year, their first album "Young" was released,[2] along with the standalone single "As We Ran". This debut album was funded through Kickstarter.[3] The album climbed to #13 on the ITunes singer/songwirter chart[4] which propelled them to play shows in Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City[5] with Andy Grammer, The Lone Bellow, LeAnn Rimes, and The Moth & The Flame. March 15, 2014 marked the band's first public performance[6] after donating money made from its single "Love in the Tetons" to the National Parks Conservation Association.[7] In the Fall that year, the National Park Experience commissioned the song "As We Ran",[8] which was featured in their debut film Love in the Tetons.[9] International attention to the band began with the release of "Helsinki"[10] in January 2015. The band features folk-pop song craft on acoustic guitar and violin, backed up by rare electronic influences.
Their second album, "Until I Live" debuted September 2015[11][12][13][14][15] and appeared on the iTunes Pop Chart and Billboard's Top Heatseekers Chart. In April 2016, "Monsters of the North", a lead single from "Until I Live", was announced as a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. As part of the centennial of the National Park Service, the National Parks performed for the National Parks Conservation Association in June 2016.[16] After their sophomore release, the band has been compared to Mumford & Sons,[17] and has sold out shows in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.[18]
The 5-member band consists of Brady Parks, Sydney Macfarlane (keyboards), John Hancock, Doug Patterson, and Megan Taylor (fiddle).[19]
