Pauli (The PSM) (born Paul Stanley-McKenzie) is a British drummer, recording artist and producer.
Career
In 2005 PSM won the Young Drummer of The Year award and appeared on the Blue Peter, performing and being interviewed by Matt Baker.[1][2]
In 2008 PSM was appointed the role as Music Director for MOBO award winning artist Jahaziel and platinum selling artist Eliza Doolittle. PSM has also done promo work and appeared in acclaimed music videos for Duffy, Jordin Sparks, Shingai Shinowa of the Noisettes, Raghav and Mutya Buena (Sugababes/MKS).
In 2009, age 20, PSM started working with Gorillaz Sound System,[3] which features the Grammy award winning cartoon band's music remixed to visual effects, and toured with the outfit, playing corporate club shows and headlining festivals around the world. Playing with Gorillaz Sound System was the perfect introduction to Africa Express, which led to Pauli’s contribution in the collective's international shows and the Cultural Olympiad UK train tour, playing alongside featuring legends: Paul McCartney and John Paul Jones (musician) amongst a host of African musicians including: Tony Allen (musician), Baaba Maal, Amadou and Mariam.
In January 2014 it was announced that Mackenzie would play drums for Damon Albarn on tour in support of his debut solo album Everyday Robots, alongside Seye, Jeff Wootton and Mike Smith.[4]
2011 – 2013
In 2011 PSM featured in Lexus' "Join the Quiet Revolution" campaign alongside Kylie Minogue,[5] musically directed YouTube pilot, Prose N Percussion[6] with SoulCulture TV and scored an "Ad of the Week" with I am The PSM for adidas Originals.
2012 was a groundbreaking year for PSM, becoming a DJ playing in Topshop, Apple and UK Festivals whilst presenting on Strongroom Alive, working for Coca-Cola as a ‘Future Flame’ and running with the Olympic Torch. All amongst a busy touring schedule as drummer with Africa Express, Gorillaz Sound System and new critically acclaimed band led by Adam Bainbridge, Kindness (musician).
Hi-lights of 2013 include headlining Glastonbury Festival with Bobby Womack and contributing as a producer on the Africa Express Album, ‘Maison Des Jeunes' accompanying a host of producers in Mali, including Brian Eno and Idris Elba.
2014 – present
Throughout 2014, PSM toured in Damon Albarn’s new band “The Heavy Seas,” Promoting the Mercury nominated debut album “Everyday Robots.” Appearing on TV shows including: BBC’s Later with Jools Holland (UK), Jimmy Kimmel Live! (US) & Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (US). Pauli has balanced touring with studio work, collaborating on production projects alongside RLR (Richard Russell (XL Recordings) and Gary Powell (musician) (Libertines).
After a successful tour with Damon Albarn & The Heavy Seas, PSM featured in Vice 20’s [7] live house band alongside Nick Zinner, Andrew Wyatt & Jack Lawrence (musician) backing artists from Jarvis Cocker to Pussy Riot and Jonah Hill to Scarlett Johansson.
