Tindharia is a town in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, India lying between Siliguri and Kurseong on the Hill Cart Road (National Highway 55).
Tindharia is a very old railway settlement and was developed by the roadside (NH 55) along the railway tracks on which the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) or "toy train" runs. The settlement has a Railway Hospital which also serves the local people. It has a recreation garden known as Smriti Van which is situated alongside the Agony Point Loop of DHR or 20th mile. The most well-known place is the Locomotive and Carriage Workshop, which was established in 1915. The workshop undertakes major servicing of steam locomotives and coaches of DHR, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It also has a Steam Loco Shed which is responsible for servicing the engines of the toy train. The Shanta Bhawan Christian mission, located between Tindharia and Smriti Van and established in 1957, is a place where children from poor families and children without parents are taken care of and sent abroad to London for further education.
