Thomas Henry "Tom" Anthony (born 16 August 1943) is a retired English professional football left back who played in the Football League for Brentford.
Career
Brentford
A graduate of the Brentford youth team, an injury crisis saw Anthony make his professional debut in a Division Four match versus Stockport County on 18 September 1962.[1][2] He went on to quickly win a regular place in the team, making 35 appearances over the course of the 1962–63 season and picking up a Division Four winners' medal.[3] Anthony managed just one appearance during the 1963–64 season (in a 2–2 FA Cup first round draw with Margate) and failed to appear at all during the following campaign.[3] He instead played for the reserve team, captaining the side to the 1964–65 London Challenge Cup.[4] Anthony departed the Bees in the summer of 1965, having made 36 appearances and scored one goal for the club.[1]
Guildford City
Anthony went on to have trials at Football League sides Coventry City and Millwall, but failed to win a contract at either club.[1] Anthony dropped into non-league football in 1966 and enjoyed a five-year spell at Southern League side Guildford City, picking up a Division One winners' medal in the 1970–71 season.[1] He made over 200 appearances for the club.[1]
