Tommy Chang (educator)

Tommy Chang, PhD, is the recently selected[1] Superintendent of Public Schools in Boston, Massachusetts, which currently educates about 57,000 students in 128 schools.[2] In recent years, the Boston school system has seen a rising graduation rate and improved MCAS scores, but several kinds of minorities have noticed stubborn achievement gaps when studying across the school system. Dr. Chang replaces Carol Johnson, who had announced her retirement in April 2013, nearly two years before the decision. His candidacy had been favored by Boston's mayor, Marty Walsh.

He formerly oversaw 135 schools and approximately 95,000 students in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
