Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting
The Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting, awarded annually by Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is named after Robin Toner, as is the Toner Lecture/Symposium on American politics and political journalism; together they make up the Toner Program in Political Reporting, established at Syracuse University in 2009. The Toner Prize recognizes those writers who have made outstanding contributions to the political Journalism field. The award was presented in 2016 by President Barack Obama

2010, Craig Harris, Arizona Republic, for an 8-part series on Arizona's broken and expensive public pension plan.[1]
2011, Jane Mayer, The New Yorker, for an in-depth look, titled State for Sale, at the effects on North Carolina of Citizens United v. Federal Elections Commission.[2]
2012, Molly Ball, The Atlantic, recognized for her in-depth reporting on the 2012 election.[3]
2013, Karen Tumulty, The Washington Post, for her coverage on politicians.[4][5]
2014, Dan Balz, The Washington Post, recognized for a series of political profiles that illuminated the partisan divide in Washington.
2016, Alec MacGillis, ProPublica, recognized for a collection of stories on issues in politics and governance.[6]
