Toyota NBC platform

The Toyota NBC platform is an automobile platform for subcompact cars (B-class cars) from Toyota.^[1] "NBC" stands for "New Basic Car". NBC platform made its debut in January 1999 with 1st generation Toyota Vitz. It is also often called "Vitz platform".

Features

• NBC cars can be either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
• 4WD variants use V-Flex II system, which is a viscous-coupling torque-on-demand.
• Engines are mounted transversely.
• Front suspension is MacPherson strut, while rear is torsion beam.
• Brakes are ventilated discs at front and drums at rear.

  • Sedan: XP10 — Platz (Japan), Echo (Canada and US).
  • MPV: XP20 — Funcargo (Japan), Yaris Verso (EU).

  • AP10 — Toyota Porte (2004–2012)
  • XP19 — WiLL Vi
  • XP30 — bB (Japan) and first generation Scion xB
  • XP40 — Vios/Soluna Vios first generation
  • XP50 — Probox/Succeed vans and wagons (use stretched wheelbase); still in production
  • XP60 — ist (Japan) and Scion xA
  • XP70 — WiLL Cypha
  • XP80 — Sienta
  • Daihatsu YRV

Notes

• Second generation Toyota bB and Scion xB are no longer based on NBC platform:
  • Second gen bB uses smaller Passo/Daihatsu Boon "NC" platform (which is Daihatsu-rooted);
  • Second gen Scion xB utilizes larger MC platform.
• The third vehicle in the "Will" series — WiLL VS — was built on a larger MC platform.
