Transmission Gully
Transmission Gully is a chain of sleep-sided, isolated valleys in the Wellington Region of New Zealand. It runs approximately north-south between the Kapiti Coast and Tawa, through the hills behind the city of Porirua.
Transmission Gully is currently the route of a high voltage transmission line owned by Transpower, and it is the proposed route of the Transmission Gully Motorway.
In 1879 a possible rail route (No 3 option) north from Wellington was by these valleys, see Haywards–Plimmerton Line.
The Only Road access through the Transmission Gully are Paekakariki Hill Road.
The Transmission Gully Motorway, which will travel though the gully, is currently under construction and scheduled to be complete in 2020. This will eventually become part of State Highway 1 as part of the Wellington Northern Corridor and the governments Roads of National Significance package.[1]
