Denair Location within California |
Denair station, also known as Turlock-Denair station, is an unstaffed Amtrak station in Denair, California. Located at 3800 Santa Fe Avenue, it also serves the nearby larger town of Turlock. It is served by the San Joaquin line.
The growth of Turlock and Denair was bolstered by rival railroads. Turlock was established by the Southern Pacific Railroad as it built through the area in the early 1870s. A few decades later, the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway constructed a line roughly three miles to the east, and the town of Denair developed along the tracks. Amtrak chose to use the Santa Fe tracks when the San Joaquin service was established in 1974, so Denair received the local station.[3]
Of the 73 California stations served by Amtrak, Turlock/Denair was the 45th-busiest in FY2010, boarding or detraining an average of approximately 60 passengers daily.[4]
