U.S. Term Limits

U.S. Term Limits (USTL) is a non-profit, non-partisan grassroots organization dedicated to enacting term limits for elected officials at every level of government in the United States. Since its founding in 1992, USTL has helped facilitate over 500 successful term limits campaigns at all levels of government.

Among other activities, USTL supports ballot initiatives in numerous states. In the early 1990s, USTL organized grassroots campaigns that placed term limits on the congressional delegations of 23 states. After achieving state-imposed term limits on 23 congressional delegations – encompassing nearly half of Congress – the citizens saw these efforts undone in 1995 by the Supreme Court of the United States in a 5-4 decision in U.S. Term Limits v. Thornton

U.S. Term Limits is currently working to promote an article V convention of the states focused specifically on a term limits amendment. U.S. Term Limits is an advocating for a single-issue convention in which other potential amendments would not be open to discussion.[1]

One resolution has been successfully passed in the Florida House of Representatives (HM 417) calling for such a convention.[2]
