Ukwa East is a Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Akwete.
It has an area of 280 km² and a population of 58,865 at the 2006 census. It has 11 political wards recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a body that conducts national elections for Nigeria. Ukwa East shares Azumini border with Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria.
