Vadalur (Tamil: வடலூர்) is a panchayat town in Cuddalore district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

About the Town

Ramalinga Swamigal, popularly called Vallalar, established the Sathyagnana Sabhai. The Thai Poosam function in January is a festival of this place. The Swamigal sang thousands of songs called Thiru Arutppa. This district was named after him for a while.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Vadalur had a population of 25,902. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Vadalur has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 61%. In Vadalur, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Today, vadalur has grown to become one of the notable towns in South Arcot District. It is the major POC connecting the national highways between Chennai-Kumbakonam-Thanjavur and Cuddalore-Salem-Bangalore.

Vadalur has had its impact of the Lignite Mines effects of its adjacent city, Neyveli. Huge carbon deposits and powerful blasts for lignite mining operations (by the nearby Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC)), is the only polluting factor of Vadalur, an otherwise peaceful town.
