Vleeshal Middelburg

Vleeshal is a center for international contemporary art in Vleeshal Markt and Vleeshal Zusterstraat in Middelburg, Netherlands. Since 1979, exhibitions have been organized in Vleeshal Markt. As of 1991, the organization is handled by Stichting Beeldende Kunst Middelburg (SBKM Vleeshal).

Vleeshal Markt is situated in the former town hall on the market of Middelburg. The space is characterized by its Gothic architecture. It has influenced and inspired dozens of artists who have created special installations for the space. Artists who have made installations especially for the space have been John Baldessari, Jimmie Durham, Mark Manders, Nedko Solakov, Yona Friedman, Art and Language and many more. Artists who have shown at Vleeshal are amongst others Hans Haacke, Herman de Vries, Carolee Schneemann, Panamarenko, Christian Boltanski, Pipilotti Rist, Falke Pisano, Simone Forti, Cally Spooner, Ola Vasiljeva.

Collection

Vleeshal has a collection which is stored at MUHKA, Antwerpen. Mukha conserves and handles the loan applications of the collection. Works in the collection include artist like Mona Hatoum, Jimmie Durham, Marlow Moss, Marcel Duchamp, Nina Beier & Marie Lund, Marinus Boezem.
