Rob Sorrenti (born 26 June 1980) is a British film director, producer and writer.
Career
Rob Sorrenti attended the Brit School of Performing Arts & Technology from 1996 –1998, and in 2000, became the youngest student (age 20) to graduate from the Ravensbourne School of Professional Broadcasting.
In 2004 he founded the production company Future Time Pictures, through which he produced and directed the documentary, The Real Billy Elliot Diaries. The show was broadcast on ITV1 and attracted an audience of 2 million viewers. This success led to Sorrenti working on behind the scenes featurettes for a range of feature films including Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason; Pride and Prejudice; United 93; The Bourne Ultimatum; Atonement; Green Zone; 47 Ronin, "The Huntsman," and "Bourne 5." He also was digital content director on the hit BBC shows Rev, Him & Her, and "Death in Paradise."
In 2007, Sorrenti wrote and directed the short film, Wednesday, which was exec produced by four-time Oscar nominated director Stephen Daldry, and supported by Working Title Films. "Wednesday" is a story about destiny and love, and how a series of seemingly random events leads inexorably to the one person you were meant to find. The film went on to screen at more than 50 film festivals worldwide, winning many awards, including Best Short Film, Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival (2007); 1st Jury Prize, Short Cuts Film Festival, Cologne (2007); and Best International Short, Garden State Film Festival (2007).
In 2008, Wednesday's success and Sorrenti's emerging talent was recognized, and the 28-year-old was short-listed for C4s Young Talent Award for Best Director.
In 2010, Sorrenti directed his second short film, "Hollow" starring Martin McCann, Morven Christie, Haydn Gwynne and Nonso Anozie. "Hollow" is a sensitive observation about the nature of addiction. Exploring the idea that love isn't always enough when it comes to getting clean, and the inevitable sacrifice that comes with sobriety. The film was selected for more than 30 film festivals worldwide, and received three awards at the Oscar-accredited Rhode Island International Film Festival (2011), including the coveted Filmmaker of the Future award. "Hollow" also won Best Short Film at the European Spiritual Film Festival (2012) and the People's Choice Award at the Aesthetica Short Film Festival (2012).
Industry professionals, including British film critic Barry Norman; actor Allison Janney, and screenwriter Bruce Rubin, have praised the film and Sorrenti for his unflinchingly honest depiction of addiction.
In 2012, Sorrenti made a legacy film called "The Spirit of The Olympics" for the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), and opening/closing ceremony producer, Stephen Daldry. The film captures the emotional impact of the international Olympic teams as they trained with, and inspired children and communities across the UK.
Rob Sorrenti is represented in the UK by literary and talent agency, Independent, and in the U.S. by global talent agency William Morris Endeavor and management agency Principato-Young. Sorrenti is now making his first feature, "Angels in The Asylum."
