Winsome McCaughey, AO (née Howell), was Lord Mayor of Melbourne from 1988-1989.[1] She was the second woman to hold that position after succeeding Alexis Ord.
Early life
Winsome Howell was born and raised at Baddaginnie near Benalla, Victoria. After primary school she was sent away to board in Geelong to attend Morongo Girls' College, a sister school to Geelong College.[2]
She was married to Patrick McCaughey.[3]
When her term as mayor ended, she headed Melbourne's bid for the 1996 Olympic Games. She also spent three years as the CEO of the Australia New Zealand Food Authority.[4]
