Yadavan Chandran
Yadavan Chandran is an Indian film maker who has been involved with films and activism since his childhood. He is a graduate in film studies from Loyola College, Chennai and besides directing, he is also a camera person and editor and has created many projects with dancer and social activist Mallika Sarabhai.
The son of award winning film maker T.V.Chandran, Yadavan assisted his father as an associate director in his films Dany (film), Sankaranum Mohananum and Boomi Malayalam.
Yadavan’s documentary on the legendary Manganiar singer RukmanBhai, ‘Soul Voice Solo Voice’ won the Silver prize at the Palpitta National Short and Documentary Festival. His other films include ‘Unarthupattu',[1] a film on adolescent girls talking of issues rarely spoken about, for the Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation, ‘Mrinalini Sarabhai – the Artist and her Art',[2] a film on the great danseuse and ‘Tana Bana,’ produced for the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India on handcrafted textile traditions from different parts of the country.
In the year 2012, Yadavan co-directed 'Women with Broken Wings',[3] an international production with Swiss pianist Elizabeth Sombert and Mallika Sarabhai, an ode to the millions of women who have been the victims of violence.
