Juventus F.C. was unable to defend its Serie A title from 1986, instead winning no titles at all for the first time in four years. It was Michel Platini's last year in football, which was not his best season. Platini was joined out the club by Aldo Serena, the striker not fulfilling the targets set by the club, despite being the club top scorer.
